Lire l’article en Français ici

As most of you know, I ‘m a big fan of the social network Instagram.

A large community of young women, wanting to lose weight or restore balance to their diet, has grown in recent months. These women can be found under the hashtags #weightloss #diet #weightlossjourney,…

I follow a few of these women but unfortunately noticed that some of them do not make the best choices when it comes to food. This may be due to a lack of information, or too big an influence from industries who stun us with their false advertising, because Yessss, Taillefine yogurt is not good for you if you want to lose weight, and NOOOO it is not healthy to eat 2 or 3 a day for dessert or as a snack.

Sometimes, I write a small comment with my recommendations, but sadly it can’t benefit everyone. Hence this article that will hopefully help some of you develop healthier eating habits so that you can reach your goals.

First of all, here is a tiny reminder:

When you want to improve the way to eat, it should be done gradually if you want these good habits to persist. We must remain attentive to our body, emotions and desires. It’s really important !

So, for the girls who are just starting to pay a bit more attention to what they put on their plates, don’t put yourself under pressure and go slow. Step by step!

First, make the changes with the food that is easier for you to cut out or to cut down from your diet. For me, it was also a long process. But today, not eating certain types of food has become normal. I don’t look at it as an effort or a psychological stress because I understand why they were not good for my body/ my health and most importantly, I found equally good and even better alternatives.

1) White carbohydrates

Avoid white carbs as much as you can, that means white pasta, white rice, white flour, white bread, ESPECIALLY sliced bread even the whole wheat kind; and the 10,000 different types of cereals or whatever industries come up with, making us believe they are natural and good for our body.

ALTERNATIVES:

You can replace them with wholegrain carbohydrates like wholewheat pasta, red rice, brown rice, quinoa, millet, buckwheat flour, coconut flour, quinoa flour, … whole wheat bread from the small bakery down the street. (Ahhhh, the small neighborhood bakeries, how I miss those! Over here, it’s more like Chinese style bakeries that sell you bread that is so white and soft that you don’t even think it’s bread, yuck)

These carbs are richer in fiber and provide more essential nutrients to your body than white carbs. In addition, they will keep you satisfied longer and prevent cravings throughout the day.

Quinoa

2) White sugar & sugar cane

Skip the sugar for your tea, coffee, tea, yogurt,…

Also try not to cook with it.

ALTERNATIVES:

Coconut sugar (I’m hooked), maple syrup, honey, dates, Stevia (personally, I can’t get into it because I find the taste too chemical and it gives me an unpleasant sensation in my mouth but for many, it ‘s a good alternative).

3) Sugary drinks and light sodas

Stop drinking any kind of soft drinks and… LIGHT sodas, sugary drinks, energy drinks and processed fruit juice They contain way too much sugar. As you probably know already, sugar is a drug, and the more we give to our body, the more our brain wants. In addition, the aspartame in light sodas might not make you put on weight right away, but it will feed your sugar addiction.

For my part, other than the fact that I find those drinks too sweet, I can’t imagine putting in my body a product, of which ¾ of the ingredients are unknown to me.

ALTERNATIVES:

Instead, opt for a delicious homemade smoothie or freshly squeezed orange juice (note: eating the whole orange is the best way to benefit from the fruit fiber), water, tea or herbal tea.

4) Dairy products

Many studies show that Man was not meant to digest cow’s milk. In reality, other than the fact that we are the only living being to feed from another mammal’s milk, as adults, we do not have the enzyme in our body that allows for proper digestion and assimilation.

The consumption of dairy products originating from cows leads to digestive problems, intestinal discomfort, increased body acidity and consequently general inflammation.

If you’re like me, stopping dairy will most likely improve your skin condition (acne). Therefore, avoid cow’s milk products like yogurt, cream and cheese, as much as possible.

Of course, if you’re hooked on cheese like I am, a little treat every now and again won’t hurt you. ;).

ALTERNATIVES :

You can replace your milk during breakfast with almond or coconut milk,…

You can also eat cheese made from goat’s milk. (I’m crazy about Feta, I top my salads with it for a gourmet and creamy touch).

5) Processed meals and sauces

That even includes the mass-produced  »light  » meals or other meals in that category.

Ketchup, mayonnaise, carbonara sauce in jars, … ( the list goes on). These dishes and sauces are filled with way too much sugar, salt, preservatives and thickeners,…

ALTERNATIVES:

Delicious homemade meals with fresh and unprocessed ingredients (note: they’re usually the ones with the least packaging).

Fruits and veggies

Believe me, all the different alternatives I suggested are delicious!

It’s true, some of them might be a bit more expensive. However, if you remove from your shopping list the Taillefine yogurt, the processed O.J. or the Special K cereal that costs an arm and a leg (which is by the way a ripoff ), you can save a great deal and buy these good healthy products instead.

Girlzz, it’s worth it! Try it and you will feel the beneficial effects really quickly. I give you my word … of Girlzz!!! ;)

I wish you good luck in the implementation of these good habits. Don’t forget… take your time! You must first listen to your body and don’t get too frustrated in the beginning to avoid giving in to temptation.

Stay tuned for lots of great recipes for you to cook and enjoy.
